A Guide to Choosing a Berber Rug and Beni Ourain Rug

These rugs are well-known around the world for their craftsmanship and they are often hand-selected for their style and quality. Beni Ourain rugs are also popular because of their traditional and contemporary styles. You can find a huge selection of these types of rugs online since they are becoming very popular in interior design right now.

What is a Berber Carpet?

Dating back to 622 A.D., the history of the Berber rug begins where familial weaving patterns were taught to Berber women. Their training would include color ranges and looping techniques from the time they were just small girls while watching their mothers and grandmothers weave intricately designed rugs and carpets.

Professional master weavers from eastern tribes would often give vintage Berber carpets to elite families as gifts. These carpets were crafted by hand from sheared wool that came from sheep in the Atlas Mountains. It is the quality of these master weavers that tribespeople in Morocco still follow today.
