Acoustic Electric Guitars
Filed under books, movies & music, businessFeb 22My brother back in the Philippines is a really good singer and plays the guitar. He wanted to get into a band but he did not have a guitar so he kept asking us to buy him one. When we finally bought him one he played in the band for a while but then the band soon broke up.
Now he plays the electric guitar at church and the congregation sings along but he has not yet been able to further his singing career. I think if he got a nice acoustic- electric guitar like the martin gpcpa4, he might be able to get jobs singing and playing somewhere by himself. We will be talking to him about that the next time we visit the Philippines.

Super Bowl XLVI
Filed under sports & memorabiliaFeb 18Another Super Bowl has come and gone and now all we are left with is finishing out the last couple of months of winter and looking forward to fishing season. We aren’t big fans of basketball and the local college ice hockey team, although entertaining, is not having a great season. Fortunately, the winter has been unusually warm for this part of the country so hopefully we can endure until spring.
In actuality, the Super Bowl was one of the more entertaining, exciting, and close of any in recent memory. We just have a hard time getting really excited about big market, big payroll, big hype teams like the Yankees and the Giants winning all the time. Last year’s Green Bay victory was much more satisfying and closer to our home here in northern Minnesota.
We were kind of hoping that Brady would even the score with Eli after the Giants ruined the Patriots perfect season back in 2008 but the Pats were not quite able to pull it off after another great fourth quarter come from behind performance by Eli Manning and the Giants. You have to hand it to Eli, he has now outdone his older future hall of fame brother and most certainly assured himself a spot there also as a two time Super Bowl winner. Most people would not have put him in the same category as his brother, Peyton, early in his career but he is looking really good now and Peyton’s career is certainly in its twilight if not over. Eli’s best might be yet to come. Congratulations to the Giants and hope the Vikings make a comeback next year.

As the Shadows Fall
Filed under books, movies & music, businessFeb 17I seldom read books anymore because I do most of my reading online. After reading the synopsis of the book entitled As the Shadows Fall, it makes me want to read the book. The book is about family and culture. I think it would be a good book for me to read in order to educate myself with respect to cultural and historical events that I know very little about.

When I grew up in the Philippines, my family never owned a vehicle of any kind. Living on the island of Mindanao did not require us to have one. We could normally get anywhere we wanted to go by either bus or tricycle (which is a motorcycle with a covered sidecar and passenger seats in the rear).
Since I got here to the US about six years ago, my hubby and I have owned five different vehicles and the one that he had when I got here had been purchased new only a few months before. It isn’t that my hubby likes to change vehicles every year, it is just that we have had an unusual string of accidents and circumstances which have put us in the position of needing to acquire another vehicle.
The car that my hubby had before I got here was a 1994 Chrysler New Yorker which he really loved. The car was very comfortable and good for long trips. Unfortunately, a big buck deer jumped out in front of him and totaled the car so he had to buy a new one in the fall of 2005. He got a good deal on that car but because he was in such a hurry to get one, he bought one with a four cylinder engine that wasn’t quite powerful enough to tow our boat.
That was the first time that he had used the internet to search for cars and he was back on the road again one day after his collision with the deer. By the next summer, he was thinking he should have got a car with a V6 engine and since his son liked our car, we decided to sell that one to him and looked for a new one. We were able to take our time and found exactly what we were looking for on the internet and got a great deal to boot. We liked that car really well and wanted to keep it forever but unfortunately we got run off the road in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on our way to my sister’s wedding and the car was again totaled. That time we decided to buy an old beater truck to get around until we could find a new vehicle that we would want to keep for a long time. We got a brand new 2009 Chevy at a great price and we still have the old beater truck to pull our boat and haul wood.
Using the internet to locate the vehicle we wanted and get a great deal at the same time has been a very satisfying and money saving process for us. If you live in the UK and are looking for a great little car that gets great gas mileage, you should check out Ford Direct online. They have many Used ford focus Titaniums and Used ford focus Zetecs in stock to choose from. Their ford focus 1.6 second hand vehicles get gas mileage in excess of forty miles per gallon and the diesel engine versions can get more than sixty miles per gallon. If you are looking to save big money on the high fuel prices, you definitely need to check the Fords.

Dating Woes
Filed under home & garden, servicesFeb 8Thanks to Darwin Barton
I don’t know why dating has to be so difficult. I think I am cute, and I have a good career. I am friendly and fun to be around, and I don’t know why it is so hard for me to meet people. I have no problem making friends, but when it comes to guys to date, I feel like I’ve been dating a never-ending chain of losers. I had one boyfriend who I really liked, but he didn’t feel the same about me. He has a job working for ADT Security and was athletic and fun. My guess is he was dating other people while we were together and found someone he liked more. That experience really hurt my ego more than anything else. Then there was another guy I went on a few dates with who was an attorney. He was smart and had a great job, but he didn’t have much time for me. It’s hard to get a new relationship off the ground when you only see each other once a month. I am trying to stay positive, but it’s hard when nothing ever seems to work out for me.
