Before I came here to the US, I had no idea of what the weather was like here in northern Minnesota. The day I arrived here in late March of 2006 was about 45 degrees Fahrenheit in Minneapolis and I thought I was going to freeze into a block of ice. Even though my new husband had provided me with warm winter clothing, I could not stop shivering until I got to the warmth of our hotel room. Fortunately, the weather began to quickly warm up after that and soon I was experiencing a beautiful Minnesota spring and summer. It was a good thing that I did not arrived in December like we were first hoping because I might have changed my mind and gone back to the Philippines before spring arrived.

Now here it is December again already and I am not looking forward to another long cold Minnesota winter. Fortunately, we are planning a trip to the Philippines in the upcoming months so hopefully I won’t have to endure the cold weather for too many more months. We are also now starting to think about buying a place in the Philippines and spending the winter months there while coming back here for the great spring and summer weather. That would be the best of both worlds in my opinion.

I love to be able to get out in the sun on those warm Minnesota days and spend sometime boating and fishing on the area lakes. I also like traveling a lot and have thought about buying an RV so that we could travel to visit my sister in Colorado and our friends in New York whenever we would like. The perfect rig for our Minnesota summers would be an RV towing our boat with a motorcycle on the back bumper of the RV. I have been checking out the RVs at the b n rv website and they have the perfect rig at rock bottom prices.

Winter is coming on here soon in northern Minnesota. We need to put our winter survival gear in the car soon so that we don’t have to worry about getting stranded in a storm. Now that we have a car with a built in phone, getting stranded for very long is less likely. Now that my hubby has been having some medical problems this year, we should probably think about getting a roadside assistance plan in addition to our survival kit.

I got this blog about arp headbolts but I did not even know what an arp headbolt was so I asked my hubby if he could help me with this. He is an engineer and has done a lot of work on cars over the years so he knew what a headbolt was but did know what arp stood for. It turns out that he has not had the head off from one of his vehicles since the 1970 Dodge van he owned needed the head gasket to be replaced. It turns out that arp is the manufacturer of headbolts and headstuds. He did not recognized the manufacturer because he has not done much of this kind of work in recent years.

The online distributor, MKM Customs, is advertising great prices on both headbolts and headstuds. They recommend replacing headbolts with headstuds because the studs make reassembly much easier. My hubby remembers from the last time he replaced the head gasket that it was very difficult to get the gasket and head lined up to get the bolts in. He agrees that replacing the bolts with studs would make head gasket replacement much easier. This would be a real time saver for someone like a mechanic who is constantly replacing head gaskets or heads on many vehicles.

When my hubby was young he always used to fix his own cars. He even did things like changing engines and souping them up. He used to get most of his car parts used from auto salvage yards in order to get a real good deal.

His first car was a 1954 Chevy that he and his brother put a big Pontiac V8 engine in. Those were the days of the big factory hot rods and he could outrun almost all of them in a drag race. It was his love of cars and mechanical abilities that led him to go to school to become an engineer. He feels that his work with cars and mechanical things when he was young was probably better training for him than all of the schooling and courses in engineering that he took.

As he grew older, he had newer cars and did less of the work himself. These days he limits himself to only things like changing the oil and replacing oxygen censors and easy things like that. He usually gets OEM Car Parts from the dealers or local OEM Auto Parts stores. He has never tried buying parts online yet but we will probably check it out the next time he needs something for our car. It might be a while though before we need anything because we bought the car new last year.
